Deck Refinishing

Superior Deck Refinishing for a Beautiful, Long-Lasting Finish.

Deck refinishing protects your outdoor investment and restores the rich look that NYC weather strips away year after year. Freeze-thaw cycles, humidity, UV exposure, and foot traffic are harsh on exterior wood. Our deck refinishing service extends deck life by years and prevents costly structural repairs from water infiltration.

We power wash the deck to remove mold, mildew, and surface dirt, then sand all horizontal surfaces to open the wood grain. We apply a penetrating oil-based deck stain or solid-color finish in your choice of tone, using UV-resistant formulas designed for outdoor exposure.

We work on IPE, cedar, pressure-treated pine, redwood, and composite wood decks. The product choice depends on wood species and current condition.

How it works

How a deck refinishing job runs

  1. 01

    Power washing

High-pressure washing removes mold, mildew, old loose finish, and surface grime. We protect adjacent areas and plants.

  2. 02

    Sanding

Horizontal surfaces (deck boards) are belt-sanded to open the wood grain and remove any remaining old finish or gray weathering.

  3. 03

    Stain application

Two coats of penetrating oil stain or solid-color finish applied with a roller and brush-back method for even penetration into the grain.

  4. 04

    Rail and vertical surfaces

Railings, posts, and fascia are hand-applied with a brush for complete coverage.

Deck Refinishing questions

How often should a wood deck be refinished?

Penetrating oil stains last 2–3 years. Solid-color stains last 4–5 years. The trigger to refinish is when water stops beading on the surface and starts absorbing into the wood. Letting it go too long leads to gray, cracking wood.

What is the best deck stain?

We use Defy Extreme, Armstrong Clark, and Cabot Australian Timber Oil depending on wood species and client preference. All are oil-based, penetrating formulas with strong UV inhibitors.

Can you refinish a composite deck?

Composite decking (Trex, Azek, etc.) is generally painted or sealed, not stained in the traditional sense. We can clean and apply a composite-specific restorer. Contact us to assess your deck.
