Parquet & Herringbone Flooring

Masterful Parquet and Herringbone Flooring for Timeless Elegance.

Parquet and herringbone flooring represent the pinnacle of decorative hardwood installation. These patterns require precise angle cuts, careful layout geometry, and patience to execute correctly. Done right, they are a permanent statement piece in a home.

We install traditional square parquet blocks, classic 45-degree and 90-degree herringbone, V-point chevron, and basket weave patterns. We also design and install custom borders: a perimeter frame in a contrasting wood species or stain that defines the room and elevates a plain floor installation into something truly custom.

Our herringbone and parquet work spans from small entryways to full great rooms. The most popular application currently is wide-plank white oak in a herringbone pattern with a natural finish — it photographs beautifully and adds real estate value that clients report seeing back on resale.

How it works

How a parquet & herringbone flooring job runs

  1. 01

    Design and layout planning

We sketch the pattern layout, determine the center point, and account for room shape irregularities before cutting a single board.

  2. 02

    Border installation first

If a perimeter border is included, we install it first as a reference frame, then work the field pattern inward.

  3. 03

    Field installation

Boards are blind-nailed and/or glued with precision angle cuts. Each row is checked for alignment before the next goes down.

  4. 04

    Sand and finish

Pattern floors are always site-finished: sanded flat across the entire surface to remove any slight height differences between boards, then stained and finished.

Parquet & Herringbone Flooring questions

Is herringbone more expensive than straight-lay installation?

Yes, typically 20–30% more. The additional cost reflects the labor of precise angle cuts, more material waste, and the slower installation pace required for accuracy.

What wood species works best for herringbone?

White oak is by far the most popular — its straight, consistent grain pattern looks especially clean in herringbone. Walnut and maple are also excellent choices.

Can herringbone be installed in a small room?

Absolutely. A 7" wide plank in herringbone in a 10x10 entryway is a very popular and impactful application. Smaller rooms actually let you appreciate the pattern more closely.
