Hardwood Floor Installation

Premier Hardwood Floor Installation for Stunning and Durable Interiors.

New hardwood floor installation transforms a room more than almost any other upgrade. We install solid oak, maple, cherry, walnut, and exotic species in both unfinished and pre-finished forms, plus engineered hardwood for basements and slab applications where solid wood would cup.

Our installation crew nails down, glues down, or floats boards depending on subfloor type and wood choice. We run boards in the longest dimension of the room to maximize visual length, cut around door casings with undercut saws for a clean finish, and leave proper expansion gaps at all walls. Every installation includes a final sand and finish on site (for unfinished product) or a touch-up buff on pre-finished boards.

Pattern work like herringbone, chevron, parquet, and diagonal lay is our specialty. These patterns require precise angle cutting, layout planning, and experience to execute without wasted material or visual drift. We’ve done hundreds of pattern installations across NYC and Long Island.

What's included

  • Solid & engineered hardwood in multiple species
  • Straight, parquet, herringbone, and chevron patterns
  • Nail-down, glue-down, and floating methods

How it works

How a hardwood floor installation job runs

  1. 01

    Subfloor inspection and prep

We check subfloor flatness (must be within 3/16" over 10 ft), moisture levels, and nail/screw condition. Any high spots are ground down; low spots shimmed or leveled.

  2. 02

    Acclimation

Unfinished hardwood acclimates in the install space 3–7 days before installation. We coordinate delivery timing with your project schedule.

  3. 03

    Layout planning

We snap chalk lines, plan the starting row for visual balance, and lay out pattern sections before the first board is nailed.

  4. 04

    Installation

Boards are installed row by row using pneumatic cleats (nail-down), full-spread urethane adhesive (glue-down), or foam underlayment (floating). We stagger end joints and maintain proper spacing.

  5. 05

    Transitions and trim

We install T-moldings, reducers, and thresholds at all room transitions. Shoe molding is nailed to the baseboard (never the floor) to allow natural expansion.

  6. 06

    Sand and finish (unfinished)

Dustless sanding brings all boards to a common level, then we apply stain and two to three finish coats.

Hardwood Floor Installation questions

What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?

Solid hardwood is one piece of wood milled to 3/4" thick. It can be refinished many times but expands and contracts with humidity. Engineered hardwood has a real wood veneer over plywood layers, making it dimensionally stable — a better choice for basements, over radiant heat, or on slab.

How long does hardwood floor installation take?

A standard 500–800 sq ft installation takes 2–3 days including site finish. Larger homes or pattern installs run 5–7 days. We provide a day-by-day schedule in your estimate.

Do you install pre-finished hardwood?

Yes. Pre-finished boards from brands like Bruce, Shaw, or Mirage arrive with the factory finish already applied. Installation is faster and you can use the floor sooner, but minor gaps between boards are more visible than with a site-finished floor.

What wood species do you recommend for high-traffic areas?

White oak and hard maple are the most durable domestic species. For extra hardness, Brazilian cherry (Jatoba) and hickory score higher on the Janka scale. We can walk you through species options and tradeoffs at the free estimate.
